The Council of Presidents will start the day with breakfast at 9 a.m. Registration and a social hour begin at 9:30 a.m. for the at-large trustees. The full Board will convene the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided during the meeting. The meeting is expected to adjourn by 1:30 p.m.
In addition to recognizing retiring Trustees, the Board will elect new members, approve the organization’s operating budget for FY 2016-2017, and hear year-end reports from the standing committees. At the luncheon that follows, the SCICU Student of the Year will be presented with the McLain-Smith Scholarship in the amount of $3,000. There also will be an open forum where a panel of college presidents will discuss higher education issues.The Board meeting will take place in the recently-renovated Chappelle Auditorium in the historic Chappelle Administration building on the campus of Allen University. Designed by John Anderson Lankford, the nation’s first black architect who is also known as the “Dean of Architects” in the African American community, the Chappelle Administration Building was completed in 1925 and listed as a National Historic Landmark as an outstanding example of Lankford’s work in 1976.
Trustees attending the fall Board meeting will have an opportunity to experience the beauty and unique architectural features of the Chappelle Auditorium, one of only twelve historic landmarks in South Carolina, three of which are in the greater Columbia area.
