Twenty Recognized for Excellence in the Classroom

Smiles were as bright as the lights of Columbia when top administrators, faculty, and friends from twenty independent colleges and universities gathered at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on the evening of April 15, 2008 to celebrate and recognize the outstanding professor from each institution. They were joined by members of SCICU’s Board of Trustees and other invited guests including eight members of the General Assembly.The featured speaker at the awards ceremony was Dr. Conrad Festa, former interim president of the College of Charleston and founder and director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at the College of William and Mary. Dr. Festa spoke about the importance of teaching as a craft and how the truly gifted and extraordinary teachers have mastered this craft and the ability to reach out and engage students.Those honored with the 2008 SCICU Excellence in Teaching Award include: Dr. Pamela Martin, Allen University; Mrs. Jacque Davison, Anderson University; Reverend Lillie Burgess, Benedict College; Dr. Patricia Born Bower, Charleston Southern University; Mrs. Tara Saracina, Claflin University; Dr. Patricia Lincoln, Coker College; Dr. Steve Farrar, Columbia International University; Dr. Ute Wachsmann-Linnan, Columbia College; Dr. Neval Erturk, Converse College; Dr. David Osterlund, Columbia International University; Dr. Sandra Chaney, Erskine College; Dr. Brannon Andersen, Furman University; Ms. Beth Hopping, Furman University; Dr. Thomas Thomson, Limestone College; Dr. Diane Hulett, Morris College; Dr. Jesse Scott, Newberry College; Dr. Cathy Sepko, North Greenville University; Dr. Brian Beasley, Presbyterian College; Dr. Walt Sinnamon, Southern Wesleyan University; Mrs. Jane Brackett, Spartanburg Methodist College; Dr. Anne Osano, Voorhees College and Dr. G.R. Davis, Wofford College.
