CSU students, faculty, alums to perform at Spoleto

May 16, 2016 By SC Independent Colleges & Universities

Charleston Southern LogoCHARLESTON, SC — Charleston Southern University will be well-represented at Piccolo Spoleto and the Spoleto Festival as CSU faculty, staff and students are scheduled to perform, as follows:

Sunset Serenade – May 27, 8-10 pm
Location: US Custom House, East Bay and Market Streets, Charleston

As Piccolo Spoleto’s annual curtain raiser, this free, outdoor concert features the Charleston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of CSO Music Director Ken Lam. This year’s program includes works by Dvořák, Glinka, and Tchaikovsky, in what promises to be a night to remember. The US Custom House provides a brilliant backdrop for the CSO as an exuberant evening of music fills the streets and launches this year’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival with a flourish.

Performers at this event will include CSU faculty members Michael Haldeman (percussion), Regina Helcher Yost (flute), Charles Messersmith (clarinet), Kathy St. John (bassoon), and Brandon Nichols (French horn).

Festival of Churches & Synagogues: First Scots Presbyterian Church Kirk Choir — May 28, Noon – 12:50 p.m.
Location: First Scots Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street, Charleston

The Kirk Choir presents a selection of anthems and spirituals including works by Mendelssohn, Clausen, Gramann, Parker, Hogan, and Rutter. This 30 member choir is conducted by Director of Choral Music Ricard Bordas (CSU Faculty) and accompanied by organist/music director JeeYoon Choi.
